09 April 2025 Travelling safe together: the key role of Operational Control Centers
ASTM manages about 5,900 km of motorways, distributed mainly between Italy and Brazil. The extension of this network, which brings the Group to be the second largest motorway operator in the world, requires high skills in managing traffic flows and infrastructure, and determines a strong sense of responsibility in ensuring high quality and safety standards in favor of users.
Each highway section is governed by an Operational Control Center (OCC), a high-tech environment in which all the information collected from Intelligent Transportation Sysytems (ITS) devices along the route, such as cameras and weather stations, converges. The data is processed by an ATMS (Advance Traffic Management System) platform, specifically designed to support operators in managing events through careful monitoring, and subsequent coordination of activities under ordinary and emergency conditions.
In the Operational Control Center (OCC), trained personnel thus benefit from an overview of the road system and access the functions needed to effectively rule each scenario, optimizing response times and coordination with third parties if necessary, such as law enforcement and emergency assistance vehicles.
The use of advanced technological systems, the precious skills of our people working within the COCs and on the road to support traffic and safety, together with the Group’s significant experience in the highway sector over the years, enable ASTM to be your reliable travel partner.
