The motorways of “Concessioni del Tirreno”, a journey through infrastructural complexity alongside the sea
16 June 2026The motorway concessionaire Concessioni del Tirreno manages the A10 Savona–Ventimiglia and the A12 Livorno–Sestri Levante, two highly engineered routes set within complex territories and heavily exposed to tourist flows.
The A10 stretches for about 113 km along the Ligurian Riviera, reaching the French border. With 90 viaducts and 67 tunnels, the route features one of the highest infrastructure densities in Europe. At the end of the section lies the new Ventimiglia toll plaza, a connection point between the Italian and French networks, recently redesigned with 23 next-generation toll lanes. The project also included integration works with the surrounding area, such as a park-and-ride facility, a helicopter rescue landing area and water collection and drainage systems.
The A12 extends for approximately 155 km between Liguria and Tuscany, connecting with the A15 toward La Spezia and the A11 toward Lucca, effectively linking the coast, inland areas and the port system. Here too, the figures highlight the complexity of the infrastructure: 205 viaducts totaling nearly 39 km of elevated roadway and 19 tunnels. The motorway runs close to the archaeological area of Luni, home to the ancient Roman colony of Luna, founded in 177 BC within a large harbor basin that has since silted up and become part of the inhabited landscape. The treasures of the city of Luna, now commonly known as Luni, can be admired at the National Museum and Archaeological Park of Luni, accessible via a dedicated connection promoted and funded by the ASTM Group.
