18 April 2019 The ASTM Group is working with young people to plan an innovative future that offers sustainable development
Investing in young people, to plan a sustainable future for them. Making the most of young people’s awareness of sustainability issues, getting them to work on the Goals of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, encouraging them to think of the future they would like to have. Interacting with the business world through gamification and game design initiatives, developing skills and innovative solutions for the challenges of sustainability issues.
This is the project promoted by the ASTM Group as part of its own sustainability policies, together with the company Jointly and the Municipality of Tortona, involving students from years four and five at the high schools Istituto Carbone–G. Marconi and Liceo Scientifico Peano.
Bringing young people closer to the business community in order to attract young talent is one of the objectives of the ASTM Group, the most important industrial company in the area and the world’s third largest motorway operator, managing over 4,000 km of network, to create sustainable value in the long term.
In Tortona, at Itinera’s head offices, 80 students have developed ideas and projects to transform roads and improve the experience of vehicles in transit.In particular, the students worked on finding effective solutions, contributing to achieving Goal 11.2 of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which is to “provide access to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all, improving road safety, notably by expanding public transport, with special attention to the needs of those in vulnerable situations, women, children, persons with disabilities and older persons”.
The event was attended by Gianluca Bardone, Mayor of Tortona, Marcella Graziano, Local Councillor for Education, and the Group’s top management.
The most important guests of the day were the pupils, who took part in a creativity workshop in teams to develop project ideas and put in practice their knowledge and skills related to Goal 11.2 of the UN Agenda.
The event ended with the works presented to a jury of mentors, facilitators and Company representatives.
The day was an important chance to engage and encourage the young students to change their attitudes and to support well-being and improving conditions in the world we live in. Based on their work, it looks like they’re already well on the way.
