Commitment to people and the territory

We are committed to creating connections, returning value to the territory and offering our customers solutions that improve their travel experience: behind every journey, there is a silent world of thousands of our workers who ensure safety, efficiency and sustainability.
ASTM’s commitment to people and the territory takes concrete form in initiatives aimed at improving the lives of those who travel, those who work with us, and the communities we pass through: for us, this means enhancing the value of our people and protecting their health, increasing safety, ensuring reliable services, and growing together with the territory thanks to infrastructure that generates development.

Focus on people

For ASTM, people are its most important resource, the heart of the organisation and a fundamental lever for the Group’s growth and success.
We value our people by promoting inclusion, occupational health and safety, and continuous skill development, as well as by creating a work environment based on the values of fairness, meritocracy, fairness, honesty and trust.
Investing in talent growth and skills development today means building the foundation for tomorrow’s success.

The right words

As part of our commitment to diversity and inclusion, we launched “The Right Words” project, a digital training course consisting of a series of short videos, produced with the support of the voluntary organisation “Consulta per le Persone in Difficoltà” (CPD), through which we address a number of topics that can facilitate the acceptance of people with disabilities, inside and outside the workplace.

Development of communities and territories

We believe that the communities living in the territories where we operate form an integral part of our sustainability journey. We measure the economic contribution and employment that the Group’s activities generate in the region in a transparent manner. We support social, cultural, sporting and artistic projects and initiatives to promote the values we believe in.

Target Astm

Actions and targets

By promoting a constant dialogue with institutions, local authorities and communities to share development plans, gather needs and build common solutions for a sustainable and shared development.
  • Targeted support for local initiatives
By supporting social, cultural and sports initiatives through donations and sponsorships, managed with transparent criteria and aimed at generating value, culture and responsibility in the communities in which we operate.
  • Measuring the value generated
By assessing our economic and employment impact, we monitor the effects of our business activities on the territories, and emphasize the positive contribution in terms of development and employment.

Impact Measurement

In the awareness that infrastructure represents a strategic asset for the economic growth of any country, and for the well-being of its citizens, we measure the direct, indirect and induced impacts that the Group’s activities generate on the territory in terms of economic and employment contributions. Overall, in 2024, the economic contribution generated is estimated at approximately EUR 13 billion, with an employment effect along the value chains estimated at over 180 thousand workers. The ASTM Group recognises that sport is an important promoter of growth for the territory and development for young people and has been supporting the Derthona Basketball team for several seasons.
A study has shown that each Euro invested in the activities of the Derthona basketball team generates a socio-economic impact on the community and territory of more than 3.5 times in terms of demand for goods and services by consumers operating along the club’s value chain, generated tourism, and savings in public spending related to the health benefits of sporting lifestyles. It is an achievement that goes beyond the playing field: a true multiplier of value for businesses, citizens and institutions!

Disability Agenda

In 2022, ASTM became the first for-profit company to join the Disability Agenda, an initiative promoted by the CRT Foundation and Consulta per le Persone in Difficoltà (CPD) with the aim of promoting greater awareness of the issues surrounding disability and vulnerability, while at the same time activating concrete initiatives to promote inclusion for people with disabilities, both inside and outside the workplace.

Among the initiatives on the Agenda, ASTM supports the “Paolo Osiride Ferrero Journalism Award” – a project conceived and promoted by CPD to highlight those within the world of information in Italy who have distinguished themselves in raising public awareness of disability and social inclusion issues.

Promoting a road safety culture: the Andiamo sul Sicuro project

“Andiamo sul Sicuro” (Let’s be safe) is one of our most relevant initiatives for raising awareness about road safety. In cooperation with the Traffic Police, schools and the local administrations, the programme is aimed at primary, middle and high school students located in the areas crossed by our concessionaires in Italy by proposing a series of playful-educational activities that aim to actively involve students. In the future, the Group intends to increase the number of youngsters involved, renew collaborations with schools and municipalities, and establish new partnerships, thus contributing to a positive change in terms of road safety awareness and to the adoption of responsible behaviour in terms of safety.

“Designed for all” areas
In cooperation with Consulta per le Persone in Difficoltà (CPD), ASTM has drawn up a “Manifesto” for inclusive and quality reception in motorway service stations. The document defines guidelines with practical indications on how to improve the accessibility, usability and welcoming aspect of the spaces and services offered in Service Stations, taking into account the needs of those who are most vulnerable, such as people with disabilities, children and the elderly.
