Official inauguration of the Storstrøm Bridge in Denmark: ASTM leading the way in European infrastructure development
06 June 2026Today, in the presence of Denmark’s highest authorities, the new Storstrøm Bridge is officially handed over to the local community. The work is named after Queen Margrethe II and runs alongside the first connection, which was opened in 1937 by her grandfather, the then King Christian X, and which will shortly be closed to traffic. The two bridges standing side by side symbolically mark the significant infrastructure development that has taken place over the last century.
The new Storstrøm Bridge is a project of considerable technical and structural complexity: at nearly 4 km in length, it is the third-longest bridge in the country and features an integrated road, high-speed rail and cycle-pedestrian configuration. This infrastructure confirms ASTM’s ability to manage international challenges with distinctive engineering and construction expertise, adopting innovative and sustainable solutions, including the use of prefabricated systems and advanced technologies to reduce environmental impact.
Built by Itinera, the Group’s EPC company, this infrastructure is a key element in strengthening links with continental Europe. ASTM’s presence in Northern Europe is expanding, again through Itinera, via other strategic infrastructure projects, such as the extension of the Stockholm metro in Sweden and the construction of new hospitals in Odense and Køge, Denmark.
