New Ventimiglia motorway toll plaza: more efficient and sustainable mobility at the border between Italy and France

The new Ventimiglia motorway toll barrier was inaugurated today. It marks the endpoint of the A10 Savona–Ventimiglia motorway, one of the routes managed by the ASTM Group in Italy. This road is a key connection between Italy and France for road transport and a strategic hub for tourist traffic.

The project, completed by Concessioni del Tirreno – a company controlled by ASTM – involved enhancing the motorway infrastructure and redeveloping the surrounding area. The new barrier features 23 toll lanes, designed to streamline and speed up entry and exit from the country. To further support mobility and local services, a 130-space park-and-ride lot was built, along with a helipad, a new connection system to the local road network and hydraulic works for water collection and drainage.

The project stands as a successful example of applying circular economy principles in infrastructure development. In line with the ASTM Group’s ESG goals, 100% of the milled material from existing pavements was reused on-site for the sub-base layers of the new road surfaces. This approach significantly reduced the use of raw materials and emissions related to material transport, helping to minimize the project’s environmental impact.

What has been achieved concretely represents the “One Company” business model promoted by ASTM, thanks to which, by integrating different competencies, it is possible to cover the entire value chain of the infrastructure sector. Itinera, SINA and Sinelec, respectively EPC contractor, design company and technological player of the Group, participated in this project, each competing for its area of expertise to the final success.
