From Piedmont to Liguria through Autostrada dei Fiori, crossing nature, industry and tourism

Autostrada dei Fiori, historic concessionaire of the ASTM Group, manages the A6 Turin–Savona motorway, a fascinating and complex 124-kilometre route that crosses mountainous areas, deep valleys and geologically diverse—and in some cases delicate—territories. From the industrial heart of Piedmont to the Ligurian Riviera: the A6 is a strategic link connecting two regions, acting as a link between the Turin metropolitan area and the coast.

Built starting in the 1960s, the A6 Turin-Savona was designed in an era when traffic volumes and vehicle loads were very different from today’s. The route is a mosaic of engineering works: 364 structures including bridges and viaducts and 52 tunnels—7 of which are longer than 500 metres and therefore subject to particularly stringent European safety regulations. Today, this motorway is a vital artery of Northern Italy’s road system, managed every day by hundreds of people according to the highest safety standards.

From 2013 to 2024, Autostrada dei Fiori has allocated around 1 billion euros to modernization, maintenance and upgrading of the A6 Turin-Savona section. The work has focused primarily on bridges, tunnels and safety barriers, with €722 million spent on new investments and €212 million on routine maintenance. Structural work has already been completed on 150 viaducts and another 16 are currently underway: a commitment that demonstrates the ASTM Group’s determination to make the network increasingly modern, sustainable and safe.
