A33 Asti-Cuneo: synergy with a “One Company” approach between local excellence and respect for the landscape
26 February 2026The A33 Asti-Cuneo motorway is an essential link for the Italian Region of Piedmont. It serves as a driving force for improving tourism and commercial flows, facilitating access to industrial districts and renowned food and wine destinations, while reducing travel times and boosting the competitiveness of local businesses.
Spanning approximately 90 km, the route features 54 major engineering structures (29 overpasses, 21 bridges and viaducts, and 4 tunnels) designed to blend harmoniously into the landscape of Langhe and Roero — territories recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2014. Furthermore, the infrastructure plays a strategic role in managing the travel needs of approximately 600,000 people who attend the International Alba White Truffle Fair every year from October to December, a world-class event celebrating this gastronomic excellence.
The management and works carried out on the A33 Asti–Cuneo are a tangible expression of ASTM’s “One Company” model, which covers the entire infrastructure value chain. Several Group companies worked together, synergically: Itinera (EPC), Sina (Engineering and Design) and Sinelec (Technology and Systems). The latter implemented the innovative Free Flow tolling system based on S*GATE technology. Thanks to this solution, the A33 Asti–Cuneo is among the first motorway sections in Italy to enable toll payments via technological portals positioned along the route. These portals, the evolution of traditional toll booths, detect transit without stops or slowdowns, ensuring smoother traffic flow and a significant reduction in environmental impact.
